Abstract

Gaining a better understanding of climate finance is critical to addressing the climate risks we face today. In this talk, we will discuss the role of new technologies and artificial intelligence in classifying narrative descriptions of development projects to determine the true level of climate engagement in development finance and where donors are focusing their efforts to improve global climate finance allocation.

I’m a development economist in training at CERDI. I spend most of my time debugging my R and Python codes trying to understand where “climate money” goes, what it is for, what it changes locally, and how data and ML can help answer these questions.
